Have you heard “Word Crimes” by Weird Al Yankovic yet? He just came out with this new song. I immediately thought, “Instant Lesson Plan!”
Homeschooling my boys with ADHD about grammar can be an exercise in futility, I tell ya! That’s why I look for fun and exciting ways to do that for me.
Of course, there’s always reading books, lots of them, that do that, too. Sure. A well read kid rarely has trouble knowing how to write. I’m just putting that out there, that based on my own personal experience.
Weird Al just released a parody of Robin Thicke’s song “Blurred Lines” that skewers the language we use online. I was clapping and cheering along with the fun tune. The pictures move fast but are very clear about how to use proper grammar.
(I may have been naming names as each BAD example of grammar popped up. You who use BRB and CYaL8r, I’m thinking of you!)
To top it off, and so you can tell your evaluator that you did indeed study grammar, go look online for examples of each broken grammar rule that Weird Al sings about.
Trust me, this will only take about 15 minutes…tops.
We have gotten so used to using poor grammar anywhere just because it’s so easy and fast to type. Do not even get me started. Oy.
