I was sponsored by Masterbook to review their Life Science: Origins & Scientific Theory (Curriculum Pack) homeschool curriculum and am excited to share my experience as well as share an awesome giveaway! All opinions are mine alone. For more information please read my full Disclosure Statement.
Have you ever had a discussion on Facebook about your Christian beliefs? It seems lately that’s all people are talking about in one way or another. “Did God really say…?” is the oldest lie to make believers unsure of themselves. I’ve done enough research and study to know that the words of the Bible are God breathed. But how do I teach that knowledge to my sons so they can discuss, and defend, their beliefs? That’s why I chose to review this Masterbook’s Christian homeschool science curriculum to use with Jordan in his first year of high school.
Masterbooks is also having a sale and a giveaway! More about that below.
What does Masterbooks Christian Homeschool Science Curriculum do?
Dr. Carl Werner’s “The Quest for an Answer – Evolution: The Grand Experiment Volume 1” and “Living Fossils – Evolution: The Grand Experiment Volume 2” from Masterbook has been called the most interesting science book most kids read. Did you know that Masterbook that does all the publishing for Answers In Genesis and notables like Ken Ham. They are the leading Creationist publishers and their Christian homechool curriculum is well done.
After the boys participated in AiG’s first ever VBS program we learned a lot about Creationism and its foundation in sound scientific research and knowledge. This Christian science homeschool curriculum helps students develop an understanding of the Theory of Evolution and its limits, of which there are many.
What does Masterbooks Christian Homeschool Science Curriculum do that is great?
When I opened the box I was blown away by the full color, hard bound books in this Christian homeschool science set. The pages feel so glossy and nice, too. The photographs are big and bright. Even the text isn’t too fussy and is evenly spaced on the page. It simply does not look like a textbook! It looks like an expensive nature magazine. The two DVDs that came with the set were also very entertaining and full of great scientific research findings. Jordan actually sat there the entire hour entranced, stopping throughout to discuss topics with me, and “amen-ing” the whole way through.
I love the page numbering is clear and consistent and just about every page has the the chapters on the top. There can’t be any excuses of not finding the page or chapter I assigned. What I appreciate even more (this is the “but wait, there’s more!” part) is the PLP or Parent Lesson Planner. This thing tells you exactly what to teach for each 180 days that most states require you to teach in a “school year”. It also has 3 tests for each chapter that you can use any way you wish or how to use it for more than one student. If you have a large family that is a huge plus.
What does Masterbooks Christian Homeschool Science Curriculum do that is bad?
The only thing I could find that I did not like was the titles on the cover of the main books. When I do a review I first google to see what other reviewers have written about the product. I could not for the life of me figure out what “The Quest for an Answer” was and how it related to the products I received. That’s the title of the first book but it’s in red on an orange background. Can you see it in the picture? I think the title should be just like Volume 2. No, really, that really drove me nuts.
Who is the ideal person for Masterbooks Christian Homeschool Science Curriculum?
Both of Dr. Carl Werner’s books, “The Quest for an Answer – Evolution: The Grand Experiment Volume 1” and “Living Fossils – Evolution: The Grand Experiment Volume 2”, assume an understanding of Biology and Geology at the high school level. This is for the family that believes that the Bible is the inerrant word of God and wants to teach their children the distinct problems with the Theory of Evolution and how to defend their faith.
