“Of all the curriculums that we have used over our ten years of homeschooling, Math-U-See is one program that I can’t imagine homeschooling without. It has provided my children with a solid foundation in math while helping them understand the concepts in addition to memorizing facts and formulas.Read her story below and then enter the contest here and then on the main page for more chances to enter.

## The Math Problem

As a kid, I was pretty good at math. It was easy for me to memorize formulas and follow the step-

by-step process to get the correct answer but I never understood why those formulas worked. Then I watched a demo video of Math-U-See and could barely contain my excitement because I finally understood why all those formulas and methods actually worked! I was sold on the Math-U-See curriculum and have enjoyed using it with my children for ten years now.

First, my kids enjoy it! Even my children who struggle in math are excited when the blocks come out. The multi-sensory approach to Math-U-See allows all of my children to grasp the concepts being taught. When it comes to memorizing facts and formulas my kids can be easily frustrated but Math-U-See helps minimize the frustration by showing my kids why the problem is solved in a particular way. Math U See has made math time enjoyable even for my math-challenged child!

We also like the clutter-free worksheets. I have a few children who are easily distracted and colorful workbooks filled with pictures often draw their attention away from the actual problem they are supposed to be working on. Math-U-See has simple black and white pages that makes it easier for my kids to stay focused on the task at hand.

## The Math Solution

Math-U-See continues to provide excellent instruction for the high school years as well. My oldest child will be using Math-U-See for her calculus instruction this year. She has had success in these more challenging math courses because of the excellent teaching found in Math-U-See. By watching the DVD’s, reading the instruction manual and checking her work with the detailed, step-by-step solution key, she has been able to complete her high school math courses independently.

## A Great Fit For The Entire Family

From Primer all the way up to Calculus, Math-U-See has provided my children with an enjoyable learning experience in math as they gain knowledge in the how and the why of mathematical concepts. Check it out for yourself and see if it might be a great fit for your family as well!

Sorry, I don’t think I signed in correctly in my response above!

Kim Chancew says

I love the multi-sensory approach to math! It helps to bring abstract ideas into a concrete visual that makes it easier to understand.

EliseW says

Thank you for your response. Really excited about our Math-U-See journey. Have a great day. 🙂

Leah says

we have loved using the manipulative blocks and the dvd. It helps to give me confidence about teaching my least favorite subject from my school days. It’s pretty sweet to see my son so excited about math!

Visiting from your Inspired Bloggers group invitation. Does Math u see work for a very creative hands-on musical mover? My nine year old daughter is all that! It’s been so hard to find a math she finds interesting and that helps her retain what she has learned. I saw math u see at a homeschool conference, but wasn’t sure spending all that $. I hope, no, I pray I win this to try it out! Thank you. 🙂

Found you through a facebook group I belong to. I am afraid of teaching high school math. My son is entering the 8th grade this year and I am already planning his high school courses.

Kim says

Thanks Janelle I wonder if MUS work for my very distracted 9 year old.

Tracey M. says

We’ve been using MUS for years! My daughter’s confidence level especially with regards to the word problem work has shown dramatic improvement. I love that the curriculum is easily adaptable. She also doesn’t have to do numerous problems to prove that she’s mastered the concept – we can choose how many problems and worksheets “NEED” to be completed. MUS is also based on mastery of a concept – this allows Alyssa to work at her own pace based on her abilities rather than the grade level scope and sequence. She’s been known to complete two levels in one year which can be hard on the budget. She gets so excited when she finds out she’s ready for the next level. She enjoys watching the DVD with me and adores Steve. The curriculum is user-friendly, the lessons are short for us, and the built-in review is awesome. The manipulative work balances out the worksheet portion of the lesson. Several different learning styles are addressed which helps my daughter learn the skill using a hands-on approach. She’s still very young and we appreciate the concrete aspect yet love that she can still learn advanced concepts. Steve also explains neat teaching tips in the manual and on the DVD which enables us to understand the concept at a deeper level. I would absolutely LOVE to win the next level of our favorite math curriculum. She’s quickly working through Delta and I would like to continue using the program without any breaks. Thank you for the opportunity!

Billie says

If I had been taught with MUS, I probably wouldn’t have cried in high school math classes. No joke.

ShantaT says

My daughter doesn’t like math but MUS helps to make math easier and less stressful for her. She is able to stay on one topic and master each concept before moving on. We will continue using MUS through high school.

Kristy Smith says

Geometry was my toughest subject in school, it never seemed to “click”, so I am looking forward myself to learning the Math U See way along with my teenager this year! We love Math U See and like Janelle, will be using it from beginning to end with all our homeschoolers!

Susan @ Homeschooling Hearts & says

I just started using Math-U-See with my 8-year-old son this past year. It’s enabled me to cover the basic concepts in a way that fully fits his visual-spatial learning style.

Triny says

My son has used math- u – see since 1st grade. He learns in 3D so the manipulative have been a perfect match for him. Every time he gets confused about a concept, the blocks are pulled out and studied. Within days he will have figured things out and we can move on.

Shecki Grtlyblesd says

I love MUS! We have used several different levels. I like the video format.

Jackie Ryan Masek says

Elise, the boys do review on KhanAcademy.org and they have been able to breeze through what they already learned with Math-U-See. I used Khan when we were moving and didn’t have our books with us but also as a summer review.

Trinity52607 says

i like the manipulatives and versatility

ticiaM says

Oh those wonderful blocks, that’s what I love about it.

EliseW says

Hi Janelle, I am from SoCal area…Miss it :-). Anyway, since you have had a full experience with Math-U-See – I wanted to know in addition to your children loving the process of learning Math now – How are they doing in regard to be tested outside of the Math-U-See Paradigm? Are they able to transfer what they are learning when given a problem outside of Math-U-See practice? I used Primer last year and loved it! But I am in the beginning stages and loved seeing your blog especially since it seems that you have experienced Primer to Calculus. So encouraging!!!

Gena Mayo says

We have used Math U See for 4 kids, Beta through Zeta. I’m really interested in the Consumer Math that they sell.

Yvonne Ferlita says

This is exactly the reason that I love homeschooling so much! “I” have filled in so many of my own educational holes while teaching my children. Thanks for sharing, Janelle! Thanks for the opportunity to win a level of MUS. I’m hoping for Epsilon or Zeta!
