We moved to Southern California from Ohio. All we knew about SoCal, as it’s known round these here parts, is that it didn’t snow and had earthquakes. What we found has been a wealth of history we knew only bits and parts of but not totally. Today we’ll explore “California’s Gold Rush”.
The History Channel did a segment on this topic for their “America: The Story of Us” series. This is a great story and we enjoyed watching it.
However, I scanned the comments (always do this before showing videos to your children) I noticed a commentator correcting some of the claims made in the video. Which led to more digging.
These are the other links that I found that give more information to the tale.

What we found the most interesting is that a lot of people chose to stay in California once they got here. We can so relate to that. Yes, we miss Ohio in many ways. However, it doesn’t snow here (unless you count the snow that falls on Mt. Baldy) and it’s always like Spring outside. That’s pretty hard to leave!
