I declared a homeschool vacation yesterday, to commence today and go through to next Monday. We have been homeschooling for eleven years now. For most of that time we have followed the local school’s schedule. That’s because the boys played with most of the kids in the neighborhood, so that just made sense.
It’s been three years since we’ve lived in that neighborhood.
We are still following that schedule.
Yes, the one that is now 2,000+ miles away from here.
It wasn’t until listening to the iHomeschool Network’s Thursday talk about homeschool scheduling that this particular nugget of information bopped me in the head.
What is iHomeschoolNetwork’s Thursday Talk?
Blogger Dianna Kennedy and Jimmy Lanley got together, along with their other homeschool blogger buddies, to create a place for moms to share their lives through social media, namely Google+ and YouTube. These talks happen every Thursday at 2pm EST and you can either view live on Google+ or on YouTube. Watch live at 2 PM ET Thursday in two ways:
The iHomeschool Network Talk That Woke Me Up
They were talking about Customizing Your Homeschool Routine or Schedule. The best part about this talk was that
- it’s OK to get started at 9 or 10am. You are not alone in that.
- it’s OK to do skool every day for 6 weeks and then take a “Sabbath” week off
- it’s OK to start skool at 5pm and go until 11pm if Mom has to work outside the home
- it’s OK to try something, keep what works, and ditch the rest
The Change We Made Starting Today
The boys have been working very, very hard on their studies since about September 1st. L has finally (Thank you, God!) finished his Math-U-See Epsilon book! J is doing very well with his history and literature lessons. These are things each of them have struggled with in the past.
Momma is tie-red.
Momma is also the Head Mistress of LJSkool.

A SKOOL HOLIDAY!
LJSkool will be closed this week due to Teacher Burnout. The students are dragging as well.
We will turn off all the alarms.
We will not get dressed in day clothes until the mood strikes us to do so.
We will not pick up a book unless the spirit moves us.
I might actually get some knitting done.
